In 1918, the German Jesuit Friedrich Muckerman began restoration of the Jesuit School, and in 1921, a renovated building was reopened. At that time the School had 135 students. After World War II, under Soviet occupation, the Jesuit colledge was transformed into a secondary school. Only in 1994 was Jesuit property returned to its real owners. The new government offered the Jesuits a challenge: the property would be returned if a school were opened by September, 1995. Fr. Jonas Boruta SJ, Provincial of the Jesuits in Lithuania and Latvia at the time, saw these buildings as an opportunity and accepted the challenge. After much work, on September 11th, the reborn School opened its doors to 336 students. Today the School's enrollment stands at 570 young men and women, attending grades five through twelve. IMMEDIATE NEEDS: Renovation and construction of school meeting conference hall, completion of the sports hall structure and it's new classes, athletic equipment, laboratory equipment for students of physics, chemistry and biology; private student lockers, student scholarships, "study abroad" programs, teacher continuing education.
